Parent Partnership

We see parents/carers as having an important role in their child’s education and staff meet regularly with them to discuss their children’s needs.  We also provide regular parent/carer workshops on phonics, reading and maths and how to support their children at home.  Our key event afternoons are particularly well attended and parents/carers/aunties/uncles and grandparents have all been known to thoroughly enjoy sharing the activities on offer and the opportunity to work with their children.

We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life. We work in partnership with parents, carers and families to ensure their well-being and success in the future.

We use Showbie to share images and videos of key events and activities that take place in school and also the children’s learning and progress.

VIEW OUR

Parental Involvement

A key part of the Early Years at Knutton St. Mary’s is having whole family involvement to ensure a smooth transition, a well-rounded experience and a positive learning environment. This comes in many different forms including, but not limited to;

  • Sharing learning events
  • Meet the teacher evenings
  • Learning Together sessions
  • Reading events
  • Invitations to nativities, summer graduation and much more
  • Family trips

In the Early Years, we feel it is important that the children see a positive relationship between school and home. We encourage families to take part in events and try to schedule these for working parents to ensure maximum participation.

Communication between Home and School

At Knutton St. Mary’s, we use the communication app ‘Showbie’. This is available for all parents. It is used by the staff to record, document and assess the children’s learning. These are all saved to the children’s ‘profile’, which can be viewed by the parents/carers at home. Families can also add their experiences by sending images/ videos into school for us to add. The staff can then see how the children are progressing outside of school. This allows the staff to make well rounded decisions about the children.

When you join the school, you will receive information about how to log into and use ‘Showbie’.

In addition to ‘Showbie’, we use several other ways to communicate with our Knutton St. Mary’s families.

  • An email and text system used throughout the primary school, to inform parents/carers of events, any issues and other important information.
  • A weekly newsletter with highlights from the week and upcoming events.
  • Our staff are always on the Early Years doors in the morning and afternoon. Teachers will update parents and happily answer any questions here.

ORAL HEALTH

Useful Information

Tooth decay is largely preventable, but it’s still a serious problem among young children, effecting around a quarter (25%) of 5 year olds!

Children who have toothache, or need treatment, may have pain or infections. This can have a wider effect and lead to problems eating, sleeping, socialising and learning. Tooth extraction is one of the most common procedures for children under 6 in hospital.

In reception, children will take part in the NHS brushing teeth programme. This programme provides each child with the correct sized toothbrush and toothpaste. Using a 2 minute timer, children are shown and encouraged to brush their teeth correctly.
