Intent
At Knutton St Mary’s Academy we aim to prepare our children for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world. This will be achieved through a broad and balanced curriculum which is rooted in our local community and reaches out to the wider world providing children with a range of experiences and celebrating diversity. We want the children to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Through the programmes of study children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group, as well as the application of scientific skills.
Through the teaching of Working Scientifically key skills we hope to foster a curiosity within our children about the world and a respect for their environment. We want children to apply their knowledge of Science when using equipment, conducting experiments and building arguments. We want them to be able to explain concepts confidently and continue to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings.
